Lauren Kennedy
Painting
Once I find a place that makes my heart sing in the alluring Pilbara Landscape, I pull over to eagerly roll out my linen on the ground.
At first, I get started by pouring and sweeping paint across the linen, until I'm swept up in the process, dancing with brushes, spinifex, or whatever is at arm’s reach.
When painting outdoors, on uneven terrain, I welcome the elements to interfere with my mark-making and push me in new directions; This keeps me engaged and on a wholehearted mission until the painting begins to echo the locations' mood.
This body of work sits somewhere between representation and feeling, and by enduring the sometimes-unbearable weather, the sense of urgency seems to transcend an energy beyond my control. For me, when the painting feels alive and true to my experience, it is ready to roll and revisit in the Studio.
