Jessica Howard

Writer, Photographer and Publisher

I spent my life running from my rural upbringing - starting a television career in the city and travelling to the other side of the world to work. But the siren call of home sounded around the time I became a mother and I felt the pull back to the world I’d been trying to escape. Since returning to Australia, writing and photography have been essential in helping me reconnect with myself and my family. My creative practice has allowed me to slow down and observe both the landscape and the people that define rural life and offered me a glimpse into the beauty that often goes unnoticed and unacknowledged. In documenting this world, I’ve found so many parallels with my own background and the process has revealed to me how place shapes not just people’s lives but also their identities.

And look at Jessica’s new book….

Terra Chroma: a creative journey into the ancient Pilbara

“18 months ago, I disappeared into the bush with a supremely talented group of artists, painters and potters, and this book explores the stunning work inspired by that trip. It’s a story of discovery, connection and creativity, set against one of the most awe-inspiring backdrops in Australia.”

Jess will be launching this very limited edition book at the opening of the Tread Softly Group Exhibition on November 9 2024. To order your copy, please email carly.lecerf@gmail.com, or click the button below.
